Simple equipment upgrade: a layer of a shirt in your clothes
As soon as mid-August rolls around, you realize two things: you won't be in summer frocks for much longer (boo!) and colder weather means fall fashion (yay!). Don't toss that dress to the bottom of your closet just yet, however. You can easily get a few more months out of it by simply layering a shirt underneath.
Stylish stars on and off the red carpet have used this smart trick. Not only can you make your dress weather-appropriate, but you can transform the look entirely. A low-cut piece can turn conservative and a strapless cocktail dress can instantly look more casual. Most examples chose to stick with a fitted, neutral top beneath the dress. You could definitely experiment however, mixing and matching with shirts' and dresses' patterns.
